Right now I have a lot of things swirling around in my head, and I'm starting to think that I ought to post some of them. Most of these thoughts have to do with politics, education, spirituality, and urban living, and the intersection between all of those things. So far, I've mostly used this blog for daily life posts, catching up with geographically distant friends, and fandom. If I do indeed manage to get some of these posts into written for (and there's no guarantee that I will, given my past record on these things) I can't decide if I should just go ahead and post them here, start a separate LJ (as I've also thought of doing for fic, but I'm not sure I actually write enough) or use the blog that I set up with blogger to chat with my church friends who mostly blog over there, but never actually use because I can never remember the password.

So, friendslist of mine, if you have any thoughts, please feel free to share them.

I find everytime I try to separate my life into multiple journals (or email addresses, or whatever) I discover the boundaries between the different parts aren't as sharp as I'd thought, and that it doesn't work quite as well as having everything in one place.

That's one side of what I was thinking--on the other hand, I have this fear that someone connected to my professional life as an educator will come here and discover my fandom interests. It's not that I'm embarassed by them, but I fear they might be the sort of thing that narrow-minded educational administrators might be against. I mean, no one at work knows that I have a blog, as far as I know, but...I have this paranoia. Although, if I was really paranoid, I probably would be friendslocking more.

Yeah, that't the flip side of it. I do find there are parts of my life that I hold back on, or lock, because this is so public a place. And I occasionally think that if I had a journal in which I were less publicly me, I might post more of that. (But then I wonder if I really need to spend more time online, too! :-))

El Jay does let you make filters, yanno. Me, I've always liked to read what you write.

True--I could set up an education filter, or a spirituality filter--I guess I might do that if the volume gets high enough. Of course, that would require me to learn how to do filters--which I'm sure isn't hard, it's just my technophobia rearing its ugly head.

I hope you will mention any other venues for your blogging here, because I would love to read them! If that's OK with you, of course!

Sure--thanks Amanda! I am always surprised that people like to read what I write here, since I tend to think that my blogging (as opposed to my actual creative writing) is rather boring.

I'd go with putting everything in one place and locking anything you don't want the whole world to see.

The tricky part is figuring out what the whole world shouldn't see. :)

I mostly err on the side of caution and friends-lock anything at all personal. I'm very liberal in who I'll add to my friends list though. I just want to have some idea who might be reading what I say. I don't figure that complete strangers are going to be interested in most of what I say anyway.
