Yuletide Letter Now A Real Letter (CW Nancy Drew, Wayfarers, Picard, Lower Decks, Valdemar)
Dear Yulewriter,
First of all, thank you so much for Writing Me a Thing in a small weird fandom that I love!
Sorry this took so long! It's been A Week ;) and I am still a Bear of Very Little Brain so this is mostly going to be a rehash of my Optional Details What Are Optional and my DNWs, with maybe some fandom promo and general burbling thrown in...
Nancy Drew (TV 2019)
I...really enjoyed this show, but didn't think I wanted fic for it until I checked AO3 and discovered the tragic lack of appreciation for my favorite Soft Boy, Nick.
I love the whole ensemble and would be happy with casefic, friendship, a found family vibe, romance, as long as Nick has a major role. I'd be happy with gen, Nick/Nancy, Nick/George (though I need more to sell me on that pairing than what canon has supplied) or Nick/Ace (though really I like them better as Good Soft Boys who are Friends). Feel free to include OCs or characters not mentioned in the tag set.
DNW: racial stereotypes, Nancy or George bashing, death of any of the tagset characters or Bess or Lisbeth
Wayfarers Series--Becky Chambers
This is an "any of these characters" request, rather than an "all of these characters" request, though they have strong found-family vibes so you certainly _could_ use them all.
Ideas: Some of the past events described in Close and Common Orbit from Blue's point of view--or Owl's. Future-fic showing their relationships changing and growing post-Owl Rescue Mission. Encounters with either the crew from A Long From a Small, Angry Planet or the Exodans from Record of a Spaceborn Few. New developments in AI rights?
DNW: These characters have Been Through Some Shit, and I'm find with exploring that, but I'd prefer that the story not end on a down note.
Star Trek: Lower Decks
I love the whole ensemble, but I really want a story about Beckett Mariner :)
I'd love something with canon-like wacky hijinks...that also maybe goes a little deeper in terms of Why Mariner is Like That. (My headcanon, which you are in no way obliged to use, is that she was a Wesley Crusher-esque prodigy who burned out and burned out hard) Future-fic, past-fic, mirror-verse fic, wacky cameos by TNG/DS9/Voyager folks (though maybe not super deep cuts, I'm kind of a casual fan); Shippy, gen, family-centric, found-family centric, it's all good.
DNW: major character death, Mariner/Boimler, Boimler-bashing (beyond what goes on in canon ;)
Star Trek: Picard
This is an "any of these characters" request rather than an "all of these characters" request; basically, I'm super fascinated with each of these characters and would love a story that explores what makes them tick.
In the case of Laris or Soji, I'd love if that led to additional worldbuilding surrounding the Romulans or Soji's people. And I'm go Raffi is my queen, and I'd be super happy with Raffi-centric gen, explorations of her past or Raffi/Seven being badass space grandmas in the future. I'm open to cameos from other Treks, though nobody super obscure please. Definitely feel free to include other Picard characters (I'm especially curious about Raffi's friendship with Rios) as long as one of the above is central.
DNW: death of any major character who isn't already dead in canon (I'm fine with people who are dead in canon being alive though), OC death is OK; much like Wayfarers, these characters have Been Through Some Shit and I'd like to at least close the story on a positive note.
Valdemar--Mercedes Lackey
Sooo, the recent availability of more of Lackey's books on audio has sent me down a _major_ Valdemar nostalgia trip. Good times ;) Valdemar has its, er, problematic aspects, but I'm still really fond of the mix of angst, humor, adventure, and found family feels in the Oath books.
For Tarma & Kethy, I'd especially love something set post-Oathbreakers, when they're starting a family and rebuilding Tarma's clan, and starting the school and basically Doing All The Things (while in a queerplatonic throuple with Jadrek). I like Jadrek a lot so he can definitely show up. Need too, heck feel free to use anyone from the secondary cast. How did they cope with transitioning from active mercs to teachers? What was early parenthood like? How did they handle the kids making the choice between the Shin'ain and a life outside the Plains?
Or, Tarma and Kethry as very old ladies still badassing, like they do.
Or, canon divergence AUs could be interesting; for example, how would they have reacted if Kerowyn had been Chosen _a lot_ earlier?
DNWs: anything sexual involving Tarma, Dark!Valdemar
